James Edward "Jimmy" Nelson, son of the late Earnest "Ed" Nelson and Marilyn "Pat" Harris Nelson of Pine Bluff, Ark. died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center at the age of 62.
He was born April 8, 1946 in Pine Bluff, Ark. Mr. Nelson was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1964. He attended Henderson State University.
He served with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. While in Ubon, Thailand, he worked in a children's orphanage during his time off.
He worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad (now Union Pacific Railroad) as an engineer for 40 years and was an officer (Road Foreman of Engineers) with the St. Louis-Southwestern Railroad while he lived in Louisiana and California. Mr. Nelson served as an officer and union representative for his union, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, in Pine Bluff, Ark.
He was a member of First Assembly of God in Pine Bluff, Ark. He worked with Operation Blessing in Pine Bluff as minister to the needy for 8 years. Mr. Nelson was a life group leader for Agape Church of Little Rock in Pine Bluff.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Kientz Nelson, whom he married September 3, 1971 in Pine Bluff, Ark.; one son, Brian Nelson of Sheridan, Ark.; one daughter, Brecken McKennon of Pine Bluff, Ark. ; one sister, Judy Norwood of Pine Bluff; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Robinson & Sons Funeral Home in Pine Bluff, Ark.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 24, 2008 at First Assembly of God in Pine Bluff, Ark. with Reverend Gary Bell officiating.
Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery with Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Ridgeway Christian School, 3201 Ridgeway Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.
