Thomas Jefferson Eaton was born 8 Mar 1863 in Waco, Texas to Jesse and Elizabeth (Huffman) Eaton. In 1870 the family lived in Grayson County, Texas. After the death of his father in 1873, Tom was in Lampasas, Texas in 1880. He married Susan Alice Ellis 20 Jun 1886 in Leakey, Texas, where they lived until 1892. At that time they journeyed by wagon to the newly opened Cheyenne, Arapaho land in what is now Washita Co., OK. The family including Maude, Lora, Ollie and Albert, first lived in a dugout on Spring Creek. Tom was co-owner of the Yates & Eaton General Store in Oakdale for a time, hauled freight from Fort Reno, broke horses and farmed. The family then moved to their home place. When Ollie died in 1895 the family set aside the southeast corner of the home place for the Oakdale community cemetery. Ollie was the first burial in the cemetery. Other children born to the family were Myrtle, Leone, Floyd, Elton, Carl, Opal, Oral, Ruby and Marshall.
According to family history, the original Oakdale school was located north of the cemetery, also on the Eaton farm. The later Oakdale school was built on the land to the northeast of the Eaton farm. Mountain View newspaper, 16Sep1921-"...new cement block school at Oakdale being built...should be ready for new year."

Tom's siblings included William H., Mary O., Malinda Caroline, Martha J., John Daniel, Laura Elizabeth, and twins Adeline and Emeline.
