Lance Corporal Ivan I. Wilson of Clearlake, California. Ivan was intelligent and an avid reader. He spent a lot of time in the library reading and asking questions. He dreamed and talked about becoming a United States Marine. In school he took accelerated courses and graduated in 2004 from Clearlake Community School. Taking a year to dabble in other things, n September 11, 2005, he enlisted in the Marines. He had served in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 29, 2007, to August 25, 2007. Home on leave, he didn't really talk about his experiences in the Middle East but he did talk about his plans to see the world beyond it. He thought about becoming a lawyer, optometrist or maybe even enlisting in the Navy to become a pharmacy technician. Ivan was on his second tour of duty, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California, when was killed by an improvised explosive device while serving in combat operations as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Ivan received a posthumous promotion from private first class to lance corporal.
