DUMFRIES, Va. -
John Carroll Johnston, age 80, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at his residence in Dumfries, Virginia.
Mr. Johnston was born July 21, 1927 in Keyser, West Virginia and was the son of the late John and Katherine (Chrisman) Johnston.
John enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and spent over 28 years in the military. He graduated from George Mason University in 1974 and majored in early childhood education.
He taught for Prince William County Public Schools for thirteen years. After retiring from teaching he worked at the Prince William Marina for over fifteen years. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 28, and the Troubadours Barbershop Singers.
Survivors include his wife Tina Johnston of Montclair; three daughters, Katherine and Allison Johnston, both of Montclair, Va. and Kim Johnston of Charlottesville, Va.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday June 4, 2008 at the Mountcastle Funeral Home in Dale City, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Edmunds 11:30 a.m. Thursday June 5, 2008 at the First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City, Va. The interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Virginia.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodbridge Relay for Life Foundation, 12179 Abbey Glen Court, Woodbridge, Virginia 22192.
