Body Found After Search By Neighbor
Charles Butler, 47, well-known farmer of the Cowden community was killed early Monday when his tractor turned over on him while working in a field a mile south and a mile and one-half east of Cowden.
Butler and a neighbor boy, Ronald Colvin, were plowing in separate fields. At noon Ronald went home for lunch and had not seen Butler. After lunch he went to look for him and found him about 2 o'clock. The tractor had turned over in a spillway, pinning Butler underneath. The accident apparently happened about 9 a.m., according to reports.
Charles Ben Butler was born to Otto and Katie Butler March 23, 1917 at Mountain View. He was married to Margie Walton November 12, 1942. Five children were born to them. He had lived most of his life in the Mountain View area. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
His father and two children preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of the home, near Cowden; three daughters, Linda, Wanda and Janet, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Katie Butler, Mountain View; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Catherine Comer and Mrs. Freda Allen, both of Oklahoma City.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 Wednesday at the Mountain View Church of Christ with Kermit Webb, pastor, and Alfred Reeve officiating. Burial was in the Oak Dale cemetery.
