DAVIS -- Services for Margaret Alexander Taylor will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Davis First Baptist Church under the direction of Hale's Fox Funeral Home.

Margaret was born on June 12, 1926, in Magnolia, Ark. to Louie Maye Falkner and Sam P. Alexander. She died on May 21, 2005.

She and Joe W. Taylor were married on Sept. 9, 1948 in Magnolia and they were publishers of the Davis News from 1956 until her retirement in 1992. In 1990-91, Margaret was the first president of the Oklahoma Press Association. After her retirement she remained active in the OPA. She was serving on the nominating committee and was recording secretary for the Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation. She was later introduced into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, as was her husband. One reference spoke of her "aggressive leadership and faithful service."

Margaret was the first female president of the Davis Kiwanis Club. While in Kiwanis she was active in the Coats for Kids project. She was past president of the Oklahoma Friend's of the Library Association. She was instrumental in getting the Bookmobile into Murray County and later a library building in Davis. She served as chairperson of the Chickasaw Regional Library System and was on the same board of directors another year. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and an honorary member of the Davis FFA. She served on the Davis Public School Foundation. Margaret was a member of the Akomda Club, HCE progressive group, Oklahoma Chapter of the American Needlework Guild and Embroidery's Guild of Norman and Pauls Valley. She worked with the Murray County Literacy program. Margaret and her husband were Oklahoma State University graduates.

Margaret is survived by a daughter, Deborah A. Starks, Yukon; four grandsons, Rich Bahner and wife Kelli, Fort Worth, Texas, Jason Starks, Yukon, Cody and Denver Taylor, both of Sulphur; three great-granddaughters, Isabella Bahner, Gabrielle Starks and Katelynn Taylor; a great-grandson, Raylen Bahner; and her only brother, John E. Alexander, Magnolia, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 9, 1978; a son, Timothy W. Taylor, Aug. 22, 2000; and her parents.

The family is composing a memory book of their beloved mother and grandmother and asks that anyone with a story of themselves and Margaret come and share those memories, or mail them to 1008 S. 5th, Davis, OK 73030.
