NORMA BATES

IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Norma Jean Bates, 84, of Idaho Falls, died March 7, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 16, 1923 in Logan, Utah, to Roy Harvey Heileson and Inez Elizabeth Nixon Heileson. She was the second of six siblings.

She married Claud Roger Wood November 15, 1941, in Boise, Idaho. He was killed while serving in World War II. She married Clarence Milford "Whitey" Bates December 23, 1947, in Rigby, Idaho. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where she was a homemaker and raised their three children. Whitey preceded her in death in 1972.

She was an active volunteer in the community, and was named Good Samaritan of the Year in 1982. She was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and served on the executive committee of Eastern Idaho Regional Council for Alcoholism.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Jolene Bates
Sister: Ramela Ramirez
7 Grandchildren & 14 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands and parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2008, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends Monday for one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Rigby-Pioneer Cemetery.
