Married Frances Jane Guy on April 7, 1870 in Amite County, Mississippi. His parents were Barzilla Monroe Roberts and Elceba Wall. He was their oldest child and only son. Had younger half sister from Elceba who married Aquilla McElveen. His siblings were:

This confederate soldier belonged to Company B, 33rd Mississippi Infantry, Amite Guards. George Washington Roberts was captured at Nashville, Tennessee on December 16, 1864, and was a POW at Camp Chase, Ohio. He was a farmer and chair maker. He even made the shoes he wore at his wedding. Always a religious man, he actually died while attending church services at the Muddy Springs Methodist Church. His great grandfather, John M. Roberts, was a Revolutionary War soldier as were some of his other ancestors he is directly descended from, James Miller, Sr., Howell Wall, Sr., George Gordon, Daniel Varner and Howell Elijah Wall. His grandparents, Elijah Justin Roberts and Elizabeth Othesy Miller are buried at the Roberts Cemetery outside of Osyka, Mississippi, located on the corner of Highway 584 and Line Creek Road. Maternal grandparents were Benjamin Wall and Parnece Gordon. George Washington Roberts is buried at old home place that is still in the Roberts family. They had eight children.
