Bourne - Howard W. Anderson, 71, of 67 Gaffield Ave., Monument Beach, formerly of West Millbury, a retired carpenter, died Friday in Jordan Hospital, Plymouth.

He leaves his wife, Marion E. (Stromberg) Anderson; a son Randolph S. Anderson of Monument Beach; a daughter, Sandra M. Carlson of Londonderry, N.H.; and two granddaughters. He was born in Worcester, son of Albin and Emma (Edstedt) Anderson, and lived 21 years in West Millbury before moving to Monument Beach in 1972. He graduated from South High School, Worcester. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II.

Mr. Anderson was a self-employed carpenter for many years, retiring in 1983. He was a life member of Aptuxcet Post Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing along Cape Cod Canal.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Upper Cape Cod, 67 Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth 02540. Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, is directing arrangements.
