Herb (my grandfather) wrote his own life story as follows:
Herbert Wayne Talbot was born to Mr. & Mrs. Charles Talbot on June 26, 1893 in Deshler, Ohio. Two years later they moved to Muncie, Indiana. He went through the grade school and half year in the 10th grade in high school, when he quit on account of sickness. He worked a couple of years for Woolworth Co and then went to Indiana business college. In 1912 he took the examination for the post office and on March 4th 1913 was appointed clerk. While working for Woolworth he became acquainted with a clerk, Pearl E. Galbreth, and married her on the 27th of Aug 1914. Also in 1914 Nov 4th he joined Muncie Lodge of Odd Fellows. He holds a life membership card at the present time. The couple had 2 children, Herbert Jr in 1916 and Betty Jane in 1919. After 10 years in Muncie post office, we moved to Los Angeles in 1923. He still worked for the post office dept. In 1945 he had to retire on account of health. Thirty two yrs of service. After a few years he regained part of his health but never went back ot wowrk. Most of the time he lived in South Gate, except a couple of years in El Monte, CA. In 1962 he purchased a mobile home and moved ot LaHabra. Mobile life was nice fo 20 yrs when both of us became sick. We then went into a retirement home where on Dec 11, 1982 he had a heart attack. The rest of his life was in hopsitals and convalescent hospitals. His wife had to share the convalescent hospital with him on account of illness.
