Named for his great uncle James B. Franklin who settled near Iola and is buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Jim showed an early talent for music, and along with farming, he began a life long career of song composition and teaching in a music school at Watt, Tx. During the years he composed over 100 gospel songs, sometimes using the pen name of Grace Allison).
About 1904 he and his wife Edna Rice Franklin moved to Groesbeck where he held various jobs: With the county clerks office, the old Groesbeck journal, and when the Mexia oil boom came he went to work for Williams and Bradley Abstract Co. and worked at it occasionally until his death. Member of Karem Temple Shrine at Waco and Mason.
