Services for Dan Heartsill, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Gorrell and Rev. Dan Patman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Born on Feb. 14, 1921, in Lone Grove, Okla., to John A. and Margrett Bond Heartsill, he died on June 7, 2005, in Ardmore. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
A resident of Ardmore and southern Oklahoma all his life, Dan graduated from Ardmore High School in 1939, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was in the battles of New Guinea and Luzon and was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the George Anderson Post 54 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4865. Dan was a tag agent for 18 years, retiring in 1982. He later owned Heartsill Specialty Advertising Company. He and Myrtle A. Stamps were married on Jan. 1, 1942, in Ardmore. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2002.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Walker and husband, Kenneth, and Sonia Dewberry, a son, Dan Heartsill, and wife, Norma, Dallas; a brother, Hobart Heartsill, Norman; grandsons, Chris Heartsill and wife, Shannon, Alan Heartsill, Erik Walker and Eric Chandler; granddaughters, Melissa Sherfield and husband, Cory, and Tasha Dewberry; three great-grandchildren, Hogan, Katie and Blake Heartsill and one on the way.
Nephews will serve as bearers. Honorary bearers are members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
