RINGLING -- Graveside services for A. J. Hawkins, 79, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Ringling Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Grady McCord officiating.
Born Sept. 15, 1925, in Center Point, Okla. to Jeff and Ethel Dillon Hawkins, he passed from this life on June 5, 2005, with his family by his bedside. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, W.H. "Buster" Hawkins; and two sisters, Leota Acox and Waunita Hartsell.

A lifelong resident of Ringling, he worked as an ironworker out of Wichita Falls, Texas, Local #592, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-45. He will best be remembered as an honest man who loved his family and liked nothing better than hunting and fishing at Mud Creek with his longtime friends, Tuffy Parker, Perch King, Patrick Stewart, L.V. Wade, George Tar and a host of others.

He and Betty Lou Carroll were married on Jan. 17, 1943, in Ringling.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Dennis and wife Kathy Hawkins, and Donnie and wife Phyllis Hawkins, his brother, Rev. Vernie Hawkins, all of Ringling; grandsons, Gregory and wife Jennifer Hawkins, Leon, and Casey and wife Rachel Hawkins, Ringling; granddaughters, Chas Carter, Lawton, and Leaha Hawkins, Ringling; great-grandchildren, Ashtyne, Paeton, Kyle, Tesla, Michael and Kaci and Baby Leaha.

Bearers will be grandsons, Greg and Casey Hawkins, granddaughters, Chas Carter and Leaha Hawkins, Randy Wade and Patrick Stewart. Honorary bearers are Tuffy Parker, L.V. Wade, Red McCauly, Robert Stowe, George Tar, Audie Roberts, Mike Hunt, Curtis Williams and Burt Roberts.
