Mrs. Ida Hughes passed away Wednesday, December 17th, at the family home on Jackson Street, Columbia, after an illness of several months, the immediate cause being pneumonia.

Mrs. Hughes was a native of Ohio, later residing in Michigan, prior to her departure for Columbia to live with her son, Frank Hughes,and grandson, Merl,who have continuously resided in Columbia since their arrival in 1912.

Besides the son and grandson mentioned, she is survived by a nieces, Mrs. May McMahon of Sonora, Mrs. Lloyd Rickart of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Florence Lenker of San Diego, all of whom have the sincere sympathy of friends.

The funeral occurred from the family residence Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, under the auspices of Gold Nugget Rebekah Lodge No. 313, of which she was a member, and many beautiful floral pieces attested the esteem and affection of her many friends. Rev. Jesse Marhoff officiated, and the Burden Undertaking Company directed the funeral. The interment was in the I. O. O. F. section of the Columbia cemetery.

Merl, the son of Frank, worked for the Columbia Fire Department where he was Fire Marshall. He spent most of his life in Columbia and was a student at the old brick Columbia Schoolhouse and Sonora High School where he was in the band. After retirement, he was a docent for Columbia State Park. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.
