PINEVILLE — Daniel Boone Hoskins Jr., 97, passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, at his home.

Born in Pineville on December 5, 1910, he was the son of the late Daniel Boone Hoskins and Rosa Wilson Hoskins. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who shared his love of nature with those around him. Both thoughtful and kind, he will be greatly missed.

He accepted Christ under the loving guidance of his high school English teacher and was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Pineville, where he taught a Sunday school class of junior boys for several years. After graduating from Pineville High School, where he excelled in football and track, he attended Western Kentucky University before eloping with his college sweetheart. He was employed as a meter engineer with Kentucky Utilities for more than 40 years, retiring in 1976.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Maisie Stone Hoskins; brother, Charles J. Hoskins; twin sisters, Alta and Alma Hoskins; and sons, Marcus Stone Hoskins and Daniel Boone Hoskins III.

Survivors include his grandchildren, Connie Hoskins of Pineville, Lezlie Sterchi and husband James of Chattanooga, Tenn., Susan Bode and husband Baxter of Maitland, Fla., and Daniel Nathan Hoskins and wife Beth of Orlando, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren, Madison Bode, Harper Bode, Baxter Bode Jr., Victoria Sterchi, Daniel Boone Hoskins IV and Dylan Hoskins.

Graveside services will be under the direction of Arnett & Steele Funeral Home on Saturday, July 12, at 2 p.m. at Pineville Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Howard officiating. The men of Kentucky Utilities will serve as honorary pallbearers.
