Tech. Sgt. Jackie L. Larsen, 37, of Tacoma, Washington. She was born at Subie Bay Naval Base, Philippines. Jackie joined the Air Force in 1990 as a Services Specialist. During her career she was stationed in the United States, Germany, Turkey and Iraq. A paralegal by trade, in April of 2006 she was assigned to Beale Air Force Base, California, as a paralegal and in June of 2008, she began her position as Legal Office Superintendant at Beale. In this position Jackie managed the general law and military justice divisions, overseeing all aspects of enlisted training in the law center. She also was the principal advisor to the Staff Judge Advocate regarding enlisted matters. Jackie had an immense love for animals, scuba-diving, her family and of coffee. Her coffee mug held 32 ounces. A tough, no nonsense approach to her work, with occasional giggles, left her greatly admired by her staff and her bosses. In the spring of 2008, one of the paralegals from her office was set to be deployed to Iraq. A previous deployment for this person and their spouse, left their 3 year old daughter with little time with her parents. Jackie volunteered to take the paralegals place in Iraq. Assigned to the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, she died of natural causes while deployed at Balad Air Base, Iraq. She is survived by her husband of 8 years, Scott Larsen a long time resident of the Yuba-Sutter area; her mother, Zenaida Upton of Plumas Lake, CA; her father, John Upton who resides in Auburndale, Florida; her sisters, Mena Longmire of Kosamond, CA, Donna Heidtke of Eugene, OR, Maritess Pidlaoan, Marilou Mari, and Carazon Rodriquez all of the Philippines. She is also survived by her niece, Ashley McKenzie and nephews, Brandon and Ryan Longmire.
