Gyla Estelle Hamlin, 78, died June 16, 2008. She was born September 17, 1929 in Avon, Utah to Leon John and Mabel Estella Summers Orton. She graduated from high school in Richmond and received a bachelors' degree from WSU.
Gyla married David Clair Hirst October 4, 1947. They later divorced. She married Dick Hamlin on January 23, 1970. He passed away in 2004.
Gyla was a member of the historical society and did the art work for them in Mesquite, Nevada a member of the art association and the democratic Party. She was an avid quilter and painter, she liked to garden and with her green thumb could make anything grow.
She is survived by her children Vicki (Jerry) Brooke; Craig Hirst and Holly Hirst; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings Beverly Gillis; John Orton and Ester Mae Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; two sisters and a daughter.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Avon Cemetery in Avon, Utah.
