Esther Chapman, our beloved mother, went home to Heaven on Monday, July 14, 2008. "Her children arise up and call her blessed." (Prov. 31:28). She was born October 9, 1911 near Ozark, Alabama. There, as a young teenager, she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. In 1932, she married Verny Reid Chapman and together they raised five children. In 1946, they moved the family to Pensacola, Florida. Esther was a wonderful mother and was held in high esteem by all her relatives, friends and neighbors. She was highly industrious: she worked for many years as an LPN at Baptist Hospital; she also kept busy with knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading and working in her garden. Her work at church was very important to her, and as she was able, she gave financially, not only to her own church, but also to many other Christian ministries. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilton & Camilla Strickland; her husband, Verny Reid; her three brothers, Raymond, Albert and Otis Strickland; and her youngest son, Joel. She is survived by her four children, Lydia Mahan (husband Tim), Jim Chapman (wife Gwen), Winston Chapman (wife Faith), and Alvyn Chapman (wife Melinda); eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Funeral service will be Saturday, July 19, 2008. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
