She was born in Provo, Utah on Oct. 4, 1912, to Joseph and Sarah Eliza Call Nelson. The sixth of seven children, she was raised in Provo. Eliza attended the Franklin Elementary, Provo Junior High, and Provo High School. After graduating from Brigham Young University, majoring in English and Physical Education, she taught school in the Granite District, in Salt Lake County. She was a member of the LDS Church and fulfilled many positions and callings on ward and stake levels in the M.I.A. and Relief Society; as president, counselor, teacher, secretary, dance director. Her most satisfying calling she said was serving as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. On July 14, 1945, she married Harry Wesley Lesher at her home in Provo. The ceremony was performed by her father, Joseph Nelson, who was granted this privilege by the President of the Church, George Albert Smith. On February 6, 1946, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Following her marriage she devoted her time to her husband and two children, Gwendolyn Elizabeth, and Nelson Wesley, and to her church callings. Throughout her life she had a great love for Provo Canyon and spent summers there as she was growing up and during the first years of her marriage. As a child, the family vacationed in the North Fork area (now known as Sundance). Later she spent her summers in the family cabins in Aspen Grove and Vivian Park. In their later married years she and her husband, Wesley enjoyed spending the winter months in southern California. One of her hobbies was collecting dolls, many of which were antiques. She loved tending children, beginning at an early age, and continuing throughout most of her life. Other enjoyable activities included swimming and ice skating with her father on Utah Lake, and dancing. Throughout her high school and college years she was active in music circles, playing the violin. From the time she learned to read, it was always an important pastime for her. Eliza has always considered herself a very fortunate and blessed person, raised in a loving, caring home, married to Wesley for 63 happy years, taking pride in the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, their mates and her great-grandchildren. Her testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel, and the love and support of her family have always been a source of comfort and strength to her.
She is survived by a daughter Gwendolyn Elizabeth Brandt (David deceased), son Nelson Wesley Lesher (Kim); 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
