Ned was a son of the late Stewart and Elizzie (Rose) Thomas. He attended schools in Weatherford, Oklahoma. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater, he was a German Prisoner of War and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He married Eva Mae Baker January 2, 1948, in Wheeler, Texas. They moved to Breckenridge in 1952, Nugent in 1954, Hamlin in 1956, Nugent in 1958, Odessa in 1968, and back to Hamlin in 1975. Ned worked as a contract oil pumper, retiring in 1992. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hamlin. He was also a lifetime member of American Ex-Prisoners of War and of Disabled American of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Eva Mae Baker Thomas of Hamlin; daughter Arlieta and husband Larry Jones of Abilene, daughter Loeida and husband Joe Jeffrey of Hamlin; three grandchildren, Erica Jeffrey and Olivia Jeffrey of Hamlin and Blake Jones of Abilene; one brother, Arvel Thomas of Thomas, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service was held Monday, March 18, 1996, at First Baptist Church Hamlin with the Rev. Howard Jones officiating with burial following in the Hamlin East Cemetery. Services were directed by Foster-Adams Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were nephews: Alan Thomas of Harrah, OK, Larry Thomas of Albuquerque, NM, Donald Alvis of San Antonio, TX, Ricky Baker of Sentinel, OK, Charles Ragan of Roswell, NM, and Leslie Ragan of Levelland, TX; and Hamlin friends Donald Young and Raymond Nichols.

Honorary pallbears were Glen Adair, Ed Branscum, Norman Carlton, Edgar Duncan, Delmer Hill, Danny Maberry, Gary Maberry, Elbert Payne, Steve Reynolds, and Earl Williams.
