Susan Halsan, 62, died May 5, 2007 in Enumclaw after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She was born July 7, 1944 in Tacoma. She attended Washington State University and retired from Weyerhaeuser Company after 40 years of dedicated service. Susan loved horses her entire life and bred, owned and raced thoroughbreds for 29 years at Yakima, Longacres and Emerald Downs. Her great enjoyment was watching them race and being in the winner's circle a number of times. She also loved her loyal and faithful dog, Baxter, who never left her side during her long illness. She is survived by Anne Butz, her partner for 30 years, nephews Christopher, Carl, Curt and Craig Halsan and cousin, Denise Reel. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Marvin, mother, Violet and brother Gary. Our thanks to Dr. Andrea Rose and Dr. Jane Houtz for their wonderful care of Susan during her extended illness. Remembrances may be made to The Backstretch Chapel, Care of Emerald Downs P.O. Box 617, Auburn, WA 98071.
