Hans J. Paarmann, a resident of Davenport for more than 60 years and foreman at the Brammer Washington Machine Co. for 23 years, died this morning at 8 o'clock at his home, 722 Vine street, after a short illness. He became ill last Monday and succumbed to the infirmities of age. He was 85 years old.

Mr. Paarmann was the father of the late J. H. Paarmann, for many years curator of the Davenport Municipal Museum, who died in 1927. He was well known in this vicinity.

He was born in Germany Oct. 7, 1845, and came to America, directly to Scott county, when a young man. Shortly after his arrival here he was married to Miss Christine Gressen (sp-Dreesen), who preceded her husband in death in 1907. For 28 years Mr. Paarmann was employed at the Brammer Washing Machine Co. as foreman.

He was a member of Claus Groth guild, of Scott lodge No. 37, I.O.O.F., and of the German American Pioneers' association.

Surviving are one daughter, Miss Agnes Paarmann, at home; three sons, Emil of Stockton, Ia., John of Davenport, and William Paarmann at home; one brother, Fred Paarmann of Davenport; one sister, Mrs. Amelia Schmidt of Germany; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Besides J. H. Paarmann, one son and one daughter preceded him in death. They were Henry Paarmann, who died in 1929, and Mrs. Laura Van Camp, who died in 1904.

The body was taken to the Runge mortuary where funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery.
