Until his retirement in 1995, Reed Quilliam was a well known and well respected professor of law at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He received his B.A., B.B.A. and J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and an LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School. At UT he was president of the Silver Spurs and Xi fraternity.

Reed married Myrna Corinne Simmons in Houston in 1953. Myrna preceded Reed in death on 6 September 2003. One daughter, Mary Corinne, preceded him in death in 1995. He is survived by two other children, daughter Kathryn and son William Reed III - also three grandchildren.

He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy from 1953 to 1955 and ultimately attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was Commanding Officer of Lubbock's Naval Reserve Surface Division for two years. Quilliam served on the boards of several key Lubbock organizations. He also served four terms as a State Representative in the Texas Legislature.

Quilliam was instrumental in the founding and development of the Texas Tech University School of Law. In 2006, he authored a book on the history of the Law School. He also served as Executive Director of the Texas State Bar Association for one year.

Reed Quilliam's unselfish dedication to the Texas Tech School of Law and to his many students over the years earned him accolades from throughout the US.
