Jacob Walter Barlup, who is firmly established in the confidence of his fellow-citizens as an agriculturalist of ability and a citizen of integrity, was born near Leitersburg, Maryland, Sep 17, 1863, a son of Isaac and Anna Margaret Elizabeth (Iser) Barlup, the former born in Maryland and the latter aboard ship on the Atlantic Ocean, while her parents were migrating to this country. Jacob received his education in the public schools of Maryland, where he worked on a farm until reaching the age of 21, at that time coming to Logan County. Here he worked at carpentering and at farming on wages, but at the time of his marriage rented a property near Big Springs. After about 3 years he moved to Perry township and rented land, on which he resided and carried on operations for 10 years. He then took up residence on the farm he now occuopies in Jefferson township, a tract of 109 acres which he has brought to a high state of cultivation, and on which during 7 years of residence, he has made numerous improvements. He is a Democrat in politics and belongs to the Lutheran church in which he formerly served as Deacon. Jacob Barlup married Minnie Gwynn in 1889 and they are the parents of two sons and two daughters. Mr. Barlup is accounted one of the able agriculturalists and good citizens of his locality, and a career of strict integrity has caused him to gain a secure place in the confidence and esteem of the people of his community.
He died at the age of 80, Mar 13, 1943 at his home in West Mansfield. He is interred in North Greenfield Cemetery.
