Claude served as a Private First Class and Gunner on A-20A (#40-168), 56th Bombardment Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Chittenden County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 17, 1941 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Claude died in the "Line Of Duty" when the plane he was in crashed near Key Field, Mississippi during training.
