He was a US Army Veteran of WWII who Served in the 94th Infantry Division with Company C of the 301 Infantry Regiment, in Northern France, Ardennes, Germany, Luxembourg, and Czechoslovakia as part of Patton's Third Army.

Married Florence Marie (Taulman) Miller on January 3, 1947 and they were the parents of Michael R. Bruce.
