Ocala - Raymond Robert Rossi, age 77, of Ocala, FL passed away on July 9, 2008 at Munroe Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 29, 1931 in Pawtucket, RI, the son of the late Antonio and Annie (DelVecchio) Rossi. He is survived by his wife, Serine, of 50 years; his son Raymond Jr. of Walnut Grove, MO; three grandchildren, Anthony, Kristin Swain and James of Chesterville, ME; a sister, Yolanda Depetrillo and brothers, William and Victor, all from Ft. Myers, FL. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Ann Spooner and three brothers, Louis, Anthony and Americo. Ray was a 1949 graduate of Pawtucket East H.S. where he was a 3-sport All State athlete in cross-county, basketball, baseball. He earned his B.A. degree in 1953 from the University of RI, his M.A. In 1962 from Wesleyan University In Middletown, CT and did post graduate studies from 1962-66 at the University of CT. While at URI, Ray was a member of the varsity basketball team for 3 seasons. Ray served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1953-55 which included a tour of duty in South Korea. He began his high school mathematics teaching career in 1956 at the Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT. He later taught math and was the mathematics department chairman at Montville H.S in Conn, from 1963 until his retirement in June of 1985. Ray was a Florida resident since 1985 having lived in Port Charlotte, Lake Suzy and Ocala. An avid golfer, he was a past member of Norwich Golf Club, Pautipaug, C.C. In Baltic, CT, the Punta Gorda C.C. Kingsway C.C. In Lake Suzy, Maple leaf C.C. In Port Charlotte and On Top of the World in Ocala. Ray was a long time member of the American Legion Post 110 in Port Charlotte and a parishioner of San Antonio Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. Most recently he was a member of the America Legion Post 284 and parishioner of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala. Funeral Mass at San Antonio Catholic Church in Port Charlotte on July 28, 2008 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of Marion County and the American Cancer Society in your area.
