Adam Derringer was the 4th son and the first born American in his family, that included his parents, George Adam Derringer and Eva Margareta Margutt, brothers Leonard, Balthasar (John), Philip and Jacob, the youngest child and sister, Katharina. He was born on May 26, 1859. Adam was my great grandfather. His parents and older siblings had immigrated to the United States from Germany in July of 1858 and settled in Ohio. George's brother, Balthasar had immigrated earlier to Ohio in 1852.
Adam married Sarah E. (? Elisabeth) Kilmer in 1886, when he was 27 years of age. They went on to have four children: Jesse Theodore, Arthur Chester (my grandfather), Jennie Loretta and Ida M (? May).
In the 1900 Census, the family was living in West Carollton Village, Montgomery, Ohio. Adam and Sarah had been married for 14 years at this point. Adam owned a farm and worked as a farmer. Ida was born on October 25, 1901. Sarah died in 1903. In 1906, Adam remarried to Mary Elizabeth Beck. Together, they had 4 children: Ralph P., Tresca Pauline, Glenna and Raymond Edward.
Adam passed away on June 30, 1925 in Montgomery County, Ohio. He was 66 years, 1 month and 4 days. The cause of death was "exhaustion due to lack of nourishment. Paranoia was a contributing factor."
