Lawrence Walter Maynard FORT WORTH
Lawrence Walter Maynard, 92, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, in Alamogordo, N.M. INTERMENT: Following cremation, Lawrence will be interred next to his wife and daughter in the family's plot at Oakland Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas, later in the summer.
Born in Ben Wheeler, Texas, Lawrence was the youngest of five children of L.W. and Mattie Williams Maynard. After service as an Army Air Corps B-29 tail gunner during World War II, Lawrence went on to graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA and MA in Social Studies. In 1956, he and his wife, Frances, moved to Fort Worth where Lawrence taught at William James Junior High School and later Leonard Middle School.
Lawrence retired in 1990 from the Fort Worth ISD after 40 years of teaching. In recent years, Lawrence became an active member of Gambrell Street Baptist Church in Fort Worth where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and a valued member of the church choirs. His interest in genealogy led him to publish five books of Maynard and related family histories. Copies of his works are now held in the Library of Congress.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Frances Ann Oliver Maynard; and his youngest daughter, Ruth Ann Maynard. SURVIVORS: He is survived and will be dearly missed by his son, James Bryant Maynard of Alamogordo, N.M.; daughter, Laura Maynard Ford of Denton, Texas; and grandsons, Austin and Kevin Ford.
