Born eighty one years ago in Colusa, CA as the twelfth of thirteen children to the late Gustav and Emma (Stites) Bruggman, she was raised and educated in Colusa graduating from Colusa High School as a member of the "Class of 1945". She went on to attend Yuba Community College.
Following her marriage to James Berry, the newlyweds moved to Southern California before returning to the North Valley where her husband worked as a Highway Patrolman. After her divorce she later married Jack Gaines. Viola relocated from Princeton, CA to Susanville to be closer to family in 2004 and when her health care became an issue she became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of Seneca Health Care District.
First and foremost a loving and caring wife and mother, Viola for many years supplemented her families income as an AVON representative. She was proud of her heritage as a native of California and was active with the Colusa, CA chapter of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Viola found solace in reading.
In passing, Viola leaves her sons; Milton Berry and wife Terrie of Susanville, CA, James Berry, Jr. and wife Jan of Visalia, CA, Russell Berry and wife Barbara of Seattle, WA, Thomas Berry and wife Shelly of Portland, Or and Clifford Berry of Chico, CA, brother; Joe Bruggman of Turlock, CA, sisters; Cecilia Brotherton of Washington, Winifred Prindle of Princeton, CA, along with her twin sister Iola Keil of Colusa, CA, eleven precious grand children and numerous great grandchildren.
She joins in her eternal home her husbands; James Berry, Sr. And Jack Gaines along with one granddaughter, seven brothers and one sister.
