Walter A. Skinner, 77, of Brookland, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Leachville, Mr. Skinner lived in the Buckeye Community before moving to Brookland in 1963. He was a farmer, and operated a vegetable stand in Brookland. For several years, he also operated Skinner's Auction in Brookland. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Fortenbery; a brother, James Skinner; and his parents, John and Florence McCauley Skinner. He is survived by three sons, John Andrew Skinner of Bay, Glen Dale Skinner of Jonesboro, and Bobby Wayne Skinner of Atlanta, Texas; four sisters, Linda Brown, and Faye Rece, both of Jonesboro, and Charlene Slatton and Anne Talent, both of Loves Park, Ill.; three brothers, John Skinner of Jonesboro and Robert Skinner and Joe Skinner, both of Edgewater, Fla; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland with the Rev. Donnie Jones officiating. Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers include Joe Johnson, Kevin Chester, Rick Story, Dale McGee, Darrell Dawson, Duane Harvey, David Head, and Ronnie Wall. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
