This community was shocked to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Lucile Goetz Hill, daughter of Jacob Goetz, which occurred in the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Friday evening following an operation. Relatives here did not know that she was seriously ill and the news came as a great shock. Mrs. Hill was taken to the hospital Friday evening for an operation and did not recover.
She was born in Fontanelle, August 31, 1902, and her age at the time of her death was 22 years, 11 months and 7 days. Her mother, three brothers and one sister have preceded her to the Great Beyond.
Mrs. Hill lived in Fontanelle until about three years ago and her cheerful disposition and kindliness toward others was such as to endear her to all who knew her. She graduated from the high school with a class numbering 24 in 1921 and was the first to break the happy school day circle.
She was an accomplished musician and her talents in that line were much in demand in school, church, and other activities of the town.
In her childhood, Mrs. Hill united with the Methodist church and remained faithful until the time of her death.
After the loss of her mother she took care of the home of her father until her marriage to James R. Hill, November 2, 1922, in Clarinda, and since then has lived in Des Moines. She was the mother of one daughter, Alice Luella, who with the sorrowing husband is left to mourn her departure.
