Services for Joe David Mitchell, 85, will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah 's Witnesses with Mike Kelly officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Davidson Cemetery in Davidson under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Born on March 15, 1920, in Davidson to William David and Fay Pauline West Mitchell, he died on Dec. 25, 2005, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Ardmore.
A graduate of Davidson High School, he attended Cameron State College and the University of Oklahoma before joining the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served 18 years before he retired. He received the Purple Heart during his time in World War II. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked in the aeronautics field as an electrical engineer with several companies in California. He moved to Ardmore in 1997 and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He and Mary Robertson were married in 1999 at Gainesville, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Joe David Mitchell Jr., Camarillo, Calif., and Ken E. Mitchell, Las Vegas; a daughter, Linda K. Peterson, Lake Stevens, Wash.; sisters, Ruby Fay Nielson, Sunnyvale, Calif., Maxine Qualls and Betty Morgan, Frederick; a brother, W.D. Mitchell Jr., Covington, La.; and three granddaughters, Katie and Amanda Peterson and Jenifer Rena Mitchell.
