Jewell was born in McCracken House east of Hwy 281 - had been the Stage Coach stand (stop) (a line owned by the Carson Lewis Stage Coach Company. The double-deck coach was drawn by four houses. It ran from Weatherford by way of Old Christian and on to other points west == Gra ham == By 1996, the building has been removed. (See a snapshot made abt 1990.) Jewell came to visit Jessie the week before her death ",, last week - came Wednesday and stayed until Monday. She had three teeth pulled & got a permanent." -- J essie.

She was married to Robert Neal Garland Feb. 24, 1 937. He preceded her in death in 1977. Together they were instrumental in organizing the Dal-Worth Appaloosa Horse Club in the late 1950s . They moved to Fort Worth in 1937 where she lived until her 1993 move to Waco. She was member of the Eleventh Avenue Church in Mineral Wells and was employed for more than 25 years at Kite's Custom Draperies in Fort Worth, retiring in 1983. Survivors include her daughter, Meg Garland Barnard of Waco and Gatesville; her son-in-law David S. Barnard; granddaughters, Blayn and Blayr Barnard; a sister Jessie (Saul) Lewallen and a brother, J.C. Saul, both of Mineral Wells; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Eleventh Avenue Church, Mineral Wells, Waco Founders Lions Club, Waco, Salesvill e Cemetery Association or the donor's preferred charity

WACO - Mary Jewell Saul Garland, a retired employee of Kite's Custom Draperies in Fort Worth and one of the organizers of Dal-Worth Appaloosa Horse Club, died Monday at a Waco hospital. She was 73.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells.

Mrs. Garland was born in Palo Pinto County and lived in Fort Worth from 1937 until she moved to Waco this year.She was a member of Eleventh Avenue Church in Mineral Wells and had worked at the drapery business for 25 years until her retirement in 1983.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Eleventh Avenue Church in Mineral Wells, Waco Founder Lions Club in Waco, Salesville Cemetery Association or a charity of choice.

Survivors: Daughter, Meg Garland Barnard of Waco; sister, Jessie Saul Lewallen of Mineral Wells; brother, J.C. Saul of Mineral Wells; and two grandchildren.
