Obituary: Frank William Drechsler, 89, formerly of 42 Collins Parkway, husband of the late Dorothy F. Fitzpatrick Drechsler, died Thursday afternoon at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital after a short illness. A lifelong resident of Meriden, he was born Feb. 19, 1894, a son of the late Charles G. and Louise Volman Drechsler, was educated in schools here and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church. He was an Army Corps veteran of World War I. A pioneer in the auto parts business, he served as a salesman for various auto parts businesses and, in 1929, he opened Frank's Auto Parts Store in Meriden and served as its president and treasurer. Upon his retirement in 1959, he sold the business to Central Motor Supply in Wallingford. He was past president of the Meriden Lions Club, was past treasurer of Post 45, American Legion and was past director for the Chamber of Commerce. His other memberships included the Eagles, the Meriden Grange, United Travelers of Utica, N.Y., and the Commercial Travelers, No. 210 of Hartford. Dreschler was a supporter of Boy Scout activities and was director of the Central Boy Scouts Council, was chairman of camping and activities for the Boy Scout Deer Lake Reservation and, in 1958, received the Order of the Silver Beaver from the National Boy Scout Organization, which is the highest award given to a civilian. The citation that accompanied the presentation of the award said Drechsler "has been extremely active in promoting the program of the Boy Scouts of America for the past six years. Under his leadership, major improvements have been made to our camp property; Frank Drechsler has been a very participating citizen..." He was a 33rd degree Mason, a member of the Sphinx Temple of Hartford, a 50-year member of Meridian Lodge No. 77, AF&AM, which he joined in 1919, a member of Keystone Chapter No. 27 RAM., Hamilton Lodge No. 22, R&SM, St. Elmo Commandary No. 9, Scottish Rite Lodges, New Haven and Bridgeport, and the Meriden Shrine Club.

He is survived by two nephews, Charles E. Yenkner of East Hampton and Robert Drechsler of East Bridgewater, Va., and two nieces, Joyce Drechsler of New Haven and Carolyn Hornkohl of New Britain. The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Flatow Home, 48 Cook Ave. The Rev. Vincent Watson, interim minister of Bloomfield United Methodist Church of Bloomfield, will officiate.
