MOSES CALHOUN JOHNSON
He departed this life on the 1st day of January 1915 near Ethel, MS and his remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Carson's Ridge Baptist Church, the next day in the midst of a large concourse of relatives and devoted friends.
He was born in Fayette Co., AL on the 13th day of March 1842 and lacked a little of being 73 years old.
His parents were Lemuel Johnson and Mary Ann Norris Johnson.
In April 1862 he entered the Confederate services a member of Captain J C Kirkland's Company in the 41st Alabama Regiment where he served for a long time and at the close of the war he was a member of Captain Ed Gamlia's Company in MS.
He made a gallant and brave soldier during the three years of that bloody and desparate struggle.
In the first named company and regiment my father was a member and Mr. Johnson was the only person with him when he died in the hospital at Tuscaloosa, AL.
While I knew him favorably all my life still the fact that he administered to my father in his dying moments always gave me a special interest in and feeling for him.
In 1866 he married Sarah Ann Jennings who survives him with their chlidren and grandchildren who are among the most honorable citizens of our county. He joined the Baptist Church in 1874 and two years later he was a decon of the church which position he held the remainder of his life.
