Clara was born in N. Mahoning Twp., Indiana Co., PA, the daughter of "Streamer" Jacob Streamer Beck and Mary Rachel Sharp. She married Clyde Sprankle Elkin on May 10, 1922 in Smicksburg (W. Mahoning Twp.), Indiana Co., PA. He died at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Clyde and Clara were the parents of two children:
1. Jack Beck Elkin
2. Nancy Charlotte (Elkin) Wilson
