Evan J. Pearson Passed away suddenly but peacefully at home two days after his 81st birthday on May 2, 2002.
"Ev" was born April 30, 1921 in Meadow, Utah to Albin E. and Naomi Duncan Pearson. He spent most of his formative years in Bingham and Midvale. He graduated from Jordan High School and the University of Utah. His schooling was temporarily interrupted in 1943, when the Junior class of the ROTC was activated to duty. As a pilot in the China-Burma- India Theater, he flew "The Hump" between India and China. He was awarded both the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for meritorious service.
After returning from the service, he received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah in 1950, and became a member of the Utah Bar Association. Deciding law was not in his career plans, he spent the majority of his working years in the Insurance Industry. He retired as CEO of the Carroon and Black Corporation, where he gained the respect and admiration of all he associated with. Ev's main priority in life was his family, a fact demonstrated more in actions than words. He married the love of his life, Maxine Johnson, on March 20, 1948. They recently celebrated 54 years of marriage. His children and grandchildren have fond memories of vacations, and spending time with dad and grandpa. After retirement, Evan's avocations included golfing with his buddies, gardening, reading, and cooking. He grandchildren called him "a master chef". He kept an immaculate garden, and was given the Sandy Beautification Award in 1998; and later received first place in the Bell Canyon Quadrant 2001 Beautification contest.
Evan is survived by his wife, Maxine Johnson Pearson; his children, Joel (Susan), Jan (Richard) Jenkins, Jace (Denece), seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, "Babydoll", also survived by his younger brother, Drew (LaRue) Pearson.
