She was a native of Pascagoula and a member of an old and well known family being the daughter of the late James Hallett Rolls and Mary Ann Carrico, themselves natives of Pascagoula. She was the wife of Eugene C. Beckham, labor foreman at the Ingalls Shipyard, and also one of a prominent Pascagoula family.
Mrs. Beckham was a member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic church, was president of the Altar Society until her health forced her resignation, a member of the Civic Council, first president of the Pascagoula High school band auxiliary, past president of the Pascagoula High School Parent-Teacher Association, financial secretary of Morgan Grove No.39, Woodman Circle and an active worker in the USO and Red Cross.
Funeral services were conducted at 9:45 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Victories Catholic church by the Rev. P.J. Carey, assisted by the Rev. J.J. Gurley, and interment was in Greenwood cemetery. Fails Funeral Home was in charge.
Pall bearers were L.B. Freeland, Jr., and Norbert Freeland of Mobile; Phillip F. Rolls of Hattiesburg; J.A. Pol, Jr., L.G. Beckham, Jr., and Edward Beckham of Pascagoula, all nephews of Mrs. Beckham.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Eugene C. Beckham, Jr., of Birmingham and S.H. Beckham of Pascagoula; one daughter, Mrs. Ann Beckham Newton of Pascagoula; a sister, Mrs. L.B. Freeland of Mobile; three brothers, Phillip Rolls of Hattiesburg; Coan Rolls of Plaquemine and Harry Rolls of Phoenix, Ariz; and five grandchildren.
