Jane was born to Leonidas and Jane Ross Gladney Cartwright. She Graduated from Terrell High School, Methodist University, and East Texas Teacher's College. She received a Bachelor of Science and a Teaching Certificate. She was a teacher following graduation for two years at the Texas State Military School.

She married William F. Weed (Bill) on October 6, 1954. She lived in Beaumont, Texas until her move to Palacios, Texas in 1993 to be closer to her grandchildren. She moved again in 2007 to follow her family into the Katy, Texas area.

She was a member of many social and civic groups. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the South Texas Historical Society.

She was survived by her son James Ross Weed and his wife Mary; son, Thomas Weed and wife Kay; granddaughters, Ellen Deering, Carol Thigpen, Elizabeth Weed, Kathy Weed, Linda Weed, Jamie Weed, Tess Weed; Grandsons, Jacob Cuellar and Jeremy Cuellar; Brother Lon Cartwright. She also has seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband William F. Weed, her parents, brother Columbus W. (Cumby) Cartwright, daughter Elizabeth Jerome (Jere) Weed, and son Frank Weed.
