Seffie was born to: James Asbury Clayton and Marietta Celestia Crook Clayton. She died at the age of eleven years old from a lightning strike while in the families log home. She was standing with her hand on the foot of a metal bed. Her sister, Lillie 15 was seated on the bed with her legs touching the metal. After the strike the family members carried the two girls out and laid them down face up in the rain. Of course, Lillie survived but Seffie was dead. The lightning also made a 2 inch hole in the wooden cabinet of a Singer sewing machine, which is the machine Lillie used for the rest of her life.
