Benjamin Canfield died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Charles Smith, near Munterville. He was 87 years old and had been a resident of Wapello county for 64 years. He is survived by 6 sons, Noyes, Henry and David of Christiansburg, Elias of near Dudley, Harvey of Lucerne, MO and F.L. of Ottumwa and 3 daughters Mrs Lettie Williams of Bidwell, Mrs Ema Cook of Medicine Lodge, KS and Mrs Dora Smith of Munterville. Funeral services held at Christiansburg church March 30, 1914 at 1 PM.

Benjamin was buried at Chisman cemetery which is located on Highway No. 34 about 8 miles west of Ottumwa, IA. The name Chisman was given to it because the land was donated by Jim Chisman who was buried ther about 1871. However, the cemetery was originally called the Christiansburg cemetery. In 1912 the cemetery was plotted and in 1931 about 1/2 acre more was added to the cemetery.
