MABEL V. GERBER

Mabel Virginia Gerber, 82, of La Grande, died Saturday morning at the La Grande Nursing Center. Mrs. Gerber was born Aug. 22, 1905 in La Grande to Nathan and Margaret (Carroll) Halsey. She married Arnold Gerber in Portland on Sept. 16, 1929. He died on Nov. 15, 1969.

Mrs. Gerber was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church where she served on St. Mary's Alter Society. She was a charter member of the Emblem Club.

Survivors include daughter Janice McDaniel of Hillsboro, son Glenn Gerber, La Grande; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Brothers Harry Leland Halsey and Archie Leo Halsey, sister [should read: "brother"] Jean F. Halsey and a daughter, Margaret Gerber died earlier.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Kelbel officiating. A concluding service and interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Evening prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Payne Family Mortuary. Memorial tributes may be expressed to the charity of one's choice, in care of Payne Mortuary, 1508 Fourth St.
