Otis was the son of the late Robert G. and Odie Mae Smith Dawson, and was one of eight children. He was born on Feb. 20, 1912, in Thomaston, Ga. Otis met and married Ruth Hulon, and they shared 62 years of blissful marriage.
Otis worked for Central of Georgia Railroad for 42 years, attaining the position of yardmaster. He was a steward and former member of the official board of First Methodist Church of Griffin, Ga.
Otis is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, of Niceville, Fla.; one son, Sam and Jo Dawson of Niceville; three grandchildren, Cheryl and Scott Redmon, Michele and Rob Rhodes and Greg and Samantha Dawson, all of Niceville; one sister, Vera Bunn of Columbus, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Jewel Dawson Forest of Park, Ga.; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 5, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Twin Cities Funeral Home, 1405 John Sims Pkwy., Niceville. Graveside services will be in Heritage Gardens Cemetery, Niceville, on Thursday, July 6, 2000, at 8:30 a.m., with pastor Lev Humphries officiating.
