Born on March 8, 1927, in Diamond, Ind., he was the son of Charles W. and Mary L. McVey.
Mr. McVey served in the US Army in Japan, in the Occupational Forces. He retired in 1989 after working for the Department of Correction as a steel metal foreman.
He was a member of the Eternal Life Baptist Church of Mooresville.
He married Essie M. Allen on June 30, 1950, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Diana Jones and husband Jeffrey; a son, Ronald Nelson McVey and wife Barbara; a daughter, Debbie Wright and husband Deny; two sisters, Ethel Drake and Gertrude Wells; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. McVey was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marylou Aker, a brother Bobby (Otis) McVey and a grandson.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Donald L. Pearson Mortuary in Cloverdale with Rev. Don Engsley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery.
