Duke of Sachsen-Wittenberg, Elector of Saxony. The son of Rudolf I and his first wife Judith of Brandenburg was born ca 1307. He was first married to Elisabeth of Hessen in 1336 and second to Elisabeth of Ruppin. He accompanied the emperor to France and attended the Battle of Crécy, where he commanded the german troops after the death of John of Luxembourg.
He succeeded his father in 1356 and became Archmarshall of the Kingdom and Elector of Saxony in the same year. He died without a heir and was succeeded by his brother Wenzel. He was first buried in the Church of the Franciscan Monastery in Wittenberg and came to the Schlosskirche in 1538.
