Antonio "Tony" T. Baca, age 81, of Albuquerque, and a longtime resident of Gallup, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 26, 2008.
Antonio was born on August 19, 1926 to the late Antonio Baca and Olfita Trujillo Baca.
His mother passed away when Tony was four years of age, and he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Manuelita and Juan Chávez (mom and dad).
Tony retired in 1989 from the Gallup Fire Department. Tony had also served as a police officer in Gallup.
Tony served in the United States Navy in World War II and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal.
Tony was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Manuelita and Juan Chávez ,his wife, Cecilia S. Baca in 1994, brother, Leo Chávez and a sister, Melba Chávez.
Survivors include his children, Victor Baca and his wife, Liz of Los Lunas, Ida Chávez and her husband, Rafael, Orpha M. Baca and Diana M. Esparza and her husband, Carlos, all of Albuquerque and Anthony Baca and his wife, Kathleen of Flagstaff, AZ, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, Tony's companion, Muriel Montaño of Albuquerque, sister, Barbara Sedillos of Albuquerque, a brother, Gilbert Chávez of California, three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, with Steve Delgado officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM. Pallbearers will be Victor A. Baca, Ralph Chávez, Paul H. Chávez, Jacob E. Chávez, Michael Walker and Victor Vaquera. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephanie L. Baca, Rafael Chávez, Carlos Esparza, John Paul Delgado, Felix Paredes, and Nanette Waller. Friends may visit at the mortuary on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
