He married Elizabeth Mohr on February 14, 1948, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He worded as an electrician for Hoessel Electric before starting his own business, Cliff's Electric. In 1969, they moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where he worked as an electric foreman at Evanite for 15 years.
