Joseph F. Burkett, of Paris, a former Clark County resident passed away suddenly Thursday evening, April 19th. He was returning to his home from a Masonic Lodge meeting when he suffered an apparent heart attack and his vehicle left the road striking a fire hydrant and light pole. A service station attendant near by summoned an ambulance and he was taken to Paris Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 10:30 p.m. Services were held at the Stewart and Carrol Funeral Home at 10:30 Monday morning with Bro. Roy Gill officiating.

He was an active member of Bell Ridge Christian Church. He was presently on the board of directors of the Oblong Christian Children's Home, and had served in that capacity for seven years. An offering in his memory for the Home will be taken Sunday morning at the Bell Ridge Christian Church. He was a member of Mason Lodge No. 268, a member of Prairie Masonic Lodge and an honorary member of Stratton Masonic Lodge, Oakland Masonic and Marshall Masonic Lodge, a member of OES, Scottish Rites Valley of Danville and order of Amarath.

Surviving are the widow, Golda; two daughters, Betty Briggs of St. Louis and Marjorie Houghland of Paris; a brother, Charles Burkett of Paris; three sisters, Ada Hendrix, Alfa Morgan, both of Marshall and Lillie Wilhoit of Martinsville; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
