Etta Cordrey, the twelve-year-old daughter of James W. and Lottie Cordrey, died at 5 o'clock, yesterday afternoon, of scarlet fever, at the residence of her grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Cordrey, West Madsion. Her illness was of brief duration, the first symptoms of fever being noticeable last Monday evening. Her parents have been living at Moore's Hill for the past year and her father arrived here last Saturday to take her to his home for the summer. Mr. Cordrey returned to Moore's Hill Tuesday afternoon to bring his wife to the bedside of their sick child but they did not arrive until 3 o'clock this morning on the mailboat.
Deceased was a lovable child and her sudden death came in the nature of a distressing blow, both to the grand-parents and to the father and mother. They sympathy of a host of friends is extended to the bereaved family.
The funeral took place at 5 o'clock this afternoon, services being conducted at the grave in Springdale owing to the contagious of the disease.
